Girl Scouts of Lac Baie Council Past Community Service Projects

Operation Warm Hearts, Warm Hands

The Operations Warm Hearts, Warm Hands program was started to help people throughout the community who are in need of warm, durable winter clothing. In all, over 2,000 winter items were donated to local shelters, schools, and organizations helping families in need through the Operation Warm Hearts, Warm Hands community service program that took place during the fall of 2006. Girl Scouts from over 80 troops and 12 different service units throughout the council took part in the program to help people stay warm and comfortable this winter. Some places that received winter items included Clothe My People in Northern Door County, the NEW Community Shelter in Green Bay, and Pulaski Pace Office in Pulaski. Way to go Girl Scouts for all your hard work and donations!

  Days of Caring and Sharing

During the 2005 and 2006 Days of Caring and Sharing council-wide community service project, over 80 Troops donated more than 200 bags of food to shelters, houses, and food pantries throughout Lac Baie Council's seven county service area. Places that received donations included the Marion House, the Golden House, the Freedom House, the Salvation Army, St. John's Food Pantry, the Sister Bay Baptist Church, the Food Pantry at Calvary Lutheran Church, and Feed My People in Sturgeon Bay.

Treats for Troops

In February of 2005 and 2006, the Girl Scouts of Lac Baie Council partnered up with the Army National Guard and WNCY Y100 for the Treats for Troops Campaign! This campaign was all about giving our Troops overseas a sweet taste of home and thanks to everyone’s help within the community, it was a huge hit! In all, over 2,500 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies ended up being sent to the area’s Army National Guard Units that are stationed overseas!

Who-oO Cares? We Care.

Between the months of Sept. 1, 2006 and April 2, 2007, Girls Scouts ages five to seventeen in our seven county service area will have the option to participate in service projects to earn a patch. Although earning the patch is exciting, what’s more rewarding is seeing the impact that young girls can make in their community. By participating in this council-sponsored program, girls experience the knowledge that adults in their community value girls, that girls are given useful roles in the community and that girls can develop a life-long commitment to community service and charity work.

This year, 62 troops participated, totaling 760 girls and 11,000 service hours!
